A veritable cornucopia of miniature delights and exotic vistas to delight the eye
Gorgeous! That wounded/infested marine is great. 😉
Thanks! I'm working on some new board sections and thought I'd post these up. I had them on the Hirst Arts boards, but all the links were broken, so I moved the pics here.
Fabulous, very atmospheric!
Thank you, these photos are from a few years ago, I think my new shots of the pieces I am working on will be better :)
Love it. Did you sculpt the face on the wounded Marine?
There's two different infested marines, both use heads from the WH fantasy zombies box.
Great stuff! Which HA moulds did you use?
Thanks! Quite a few. These ones for sure: 1.5 inch Sci-fi floors: #276, #277, #278, #279 'Pipe mold' #230 'Industrial Edge' #325 'Cargo Bay Accessory' #302 'Gothic Accessories'#43'Gothic Church' #54Sadly I didn't acquire 'Industrial Accessory'#326 and 'Machinery Builder'#327 until almost done with the build, I'd have loved to use more of those parts in it. Obviously I have an addiction problem when it comes to Hirst Molds...
I wish their moulds were a bit cheaper. Even a few and you've hit a hundred quid. What did you mount the pieces on? I had a look on their website and they suggest foam but I wasn't sure if that would stay rigid enough.
I use 'Gatorfoam' or 'Gatorboard'. It is a lot like foamboard or foamcore but it has a much more rigid and durable outer layer. Yeah, Hirst molds are pricey. I think it would have been about the same overall cost to buy a full layout commercial 'Space Dungeon' at the time, but it would have saved a LOT of time. I look back and wonder how on earth I had the time to cast blocks and build this thing, let alone paint it. I think there are more options on the market now, in plastic and MDF. If you love building and coming up with combinations, the hobby aspect, Hirst is the way to go. I use the molds for quite a few other things too. I acquired molds pretty slowly until a couple years ago, when Bruce Hirst asked me to paint some miniatures for him in exchange for molds- then I pretty much got the reaminder of those I had been wanting.
Fantastic stuff! The wounded marine and the skull under the glass are great!
A love bit of work.
