Excerpt from Esoteric
Pilgrimage Destinations of the Gothic Sector, Volume 7, by Adept Matthias
Laetorius.
“As Saint Christophorus’s Day approaches, the children of Ophatran
Secundus begin making their ersatz servo skulls. There is a commonly
held (and erroneous) belief that Saint Christophorus created the first
servo skull. The children’s versions are fashioned from paper strips and
a starch glue, painted, and attached to sticks so that the children may
simulate the hovering of the omnipresent skulls, which can be seen
flitting about any imperial planet”.

Again, love the lived in 40k world. And the children and mother to be look great.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLovely vignette. I wonder if such niceties would be tolerated in the imperium. I imagine one might be purged for less. Awesome as always.
ReplyDeleteGood question :)
DeleteI think it depends on the world, or even region of a world, and if the activity can be framed in a way that serves the Ecclesiarchy, and Imperium in general. Schola Progenium children would likely not get to do anything like this, but everyday non-adept sorts might. I think that a society accepting something as creepy as servo skulls would benefit from some early indoctrination.
Now, if someone like Inquisitor Karamazov shows up, I could see there being some problems.
As Commissar suggests the Inquisition series is a huge inspiration :)
Know no fear was my first Abnett book. Its narrative didn't hang out so much in the mud with the civvies, but I totally agree about him being a great author!
DeleteWhat a lovely narrative and how you catch the moment with such a level of subtleties. You tell a lot with the minis and suggest quite a lot more. That's truly magnificent
ReplyDeleteLove it all! The story, the execution of the kids with their servo skulls. Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant!
